Schenectady's Proctor's Theatre has survived a turbulent past since it was built in 1926. Originally a Vaudeville theater, it withstood the Great Depression, an attempt to tear it down in the 1970s and numerous changing of hands to become the thriving arts center it is today. Comprised of three performance areas, its Main Stage Theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and presents touring Broadway productions each year.
