Long Night's Journey
There is much to admire in this revival, including the fact that it was done at all. The best is Nathan Lane as Hickey the salesman, as persuasive as a preacher or a snake-oil salesman; but the lingering ghost of Jason Robards, Jr, for those of us fortunate enough to have seen his performance or heard recordings of it, still haunts the play. There is much fine acting by the supporting characters, unfortunately marred in some cases by what is most likely the Chicago conception of a New York accent. The excessive breaks for intermissions do nothing for the pace, which is somewhat deliberate.
